Tragic Loss: Family Honors Missing Kayaker, Michael Henry

Date:

The family of a 19-year-old kayaker, Michael Henry, who is presumed to have passed away after going missing off the Northumberland coast, has honored their “beloved son.”

Michael Henry was in a two-person kayak with a friend when it overturned near Boulmer in Northumberland on the evening of July 7. While the friend managed to reach a buoy and was rescued by the coastguard, extensive search efforts for Mr. Henry yielded no results, and Northumbria Police confirmed the conclusion of the operation.

Authorities sadly believe that he perished at sea. In a heartfelt statement, his family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they have received and described Michael as a cherished son, brother, grandson, nephew, teammate, and friend. They highlighted his passion for sports and the outdoors, mentioning his upcoming travel plans and university aspirations.

Chief Inspector Jon Caisley shared his condolences, acknowledging the profound impact of the news on Michael’s loved ones and the community. Despite thorough sea and coastal searches, Michael remains unfound and is presumed to have lost his life at sea.

Mr. Caisley thanked all involved in the search efforts and urged respect for the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
