A tragic car accident during a family holiday has resulted in the loss of a six-month-old baby and her parents, while their seven-year-old daughter fights for her life. The incident occurred on a road in Greece’s Halkidiki peninsula as the family from Moldova was heading to a beach.
The parents, Lucia Sîrbu, 28, and Constantin Sîrbu, 35, lost their lives in the collision with a lorry tanker, with Lucia and the baby succumbing at the crash site. Constantin was extracted from the wreckage and taken to a hospital but passed away later despite medical efforts. Their surviving daughter remains in serious condition at a hospital in Thessaloniki after being airlifted there.
Local authorities are seeking donations to facilitate the repatriation of the deceased family members. The Mayor of Straseni, Valentina Casian, issued an appeal for support through social media, emphasizing the need for community assistance during this tragic period.
The Greek authorities are conducting an investigation into the accident to determine its cause, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moldova confirmed the involvement of four Moldovan citizens in the incident. The Moldovan Embassy in Athens is providing consular support and coordinating efforts for the repatriation of the victims.
