More than 180 regions are expected to experience rainfall on Tuesday, interrupting the country’s sunny summer streak. The Met Office has predicted showers in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, with most parts of England also likely to see precipitation.
According to the latest forecast issued on Monday, outbreaks of heavy rain are anticipated in the northern regions, accompanied by a risk of thunderstorms. Southern areas may experience scattered showers and the occasional thunderstorm, with warm and humid conditions prevailing. Windy conditions are expected in the north.
Despite the rainy spell, temperatures are set to remain high in drier regions like the southeast, where the mercury could reach 28C. Meteorologists are optimistic that the wet weather will give way to sunshine in the coming days.
The Met Office’s outlook suggests continued unsettled conditions in the north with rain or showers, while southern areas are expected to become drier starting from Thursday.
Rainfall is forecasted to affect 181 council areas nationwide, encompassing all regions in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. In England, 116 out of 153 council areas are expected to receive some form of rain. Heavier rainfall is predicted for the afternoon in northern England, with over 32mm expected in the Yorkshire Dales and Lancashire.
Significant rainfall is also expected in Cornwall, Devon, Newcastle, and the Scottish Borders on Tuesday evening, primarily in the form of a northeastward-moving band of cloud followed by scattered showers.
Temperatures will remain typical for August, with Belfast expecting 23C, Cardiff and Manchester 25C, Edinburgh 20C, and London set to be warmer at 28C.
