“Barricaded Suspect in Edinburgh Mass Stabbing Prompts Neighborhood Lockdown”

Date:

Police in Edinburgh, Scotland, are currently dealing with a situation where a suspect involved in a reported mass stabbing is barricaded on the top floor of an apartment complex. Law enforcement officers are utilizing a drone to assist in locating the individual. The incident has led to a lockdown of the neighborhood.

Two individuals have been hospitalized following the stabbing incident, prompting a significant police response in the area. Images from the scene show a large police presence and the use of advanced technology to track down the suspect, who was seen brandishing two knives earlier.

Authorities from Police Scotland have set up operations at the Calder building in Edinburgh, deploying a drone to provide aerial surveillance of the complex. This tactic aims to pinpoint the suspect’s position within the tower block.

Local residents have described the unprecedented disturbance in the area, with one resident, Mary Todd, recalling hearing noises from the suspect in the tower block. The individual was spotted wielding a knife while the standoff unfolded.

Reports suggest that the armed suspect had caused chaos by entering a local store, attempting to access a school, and threatening workers with a knife. Residents have been advised to remain indoors as a precaution, and several schools and nurseries were placed on lockdown earlier in the day.

Police have issued a statement urging the public to avoid the Calder area of Edinburgh due to the presence of an armed individual. Firearms officers are on the scene as part of the ongoing response efforts.
