Dozens of individuals supporting Bolsonaro were injured by a lightning strike in Brasilia while waiting for a march by the ex-president’s backers near the JK Memorial on Monumental Axis road. The incident occurred around 1pm, resulting in 72 people receiving medical aid, with 30 of them being hospitalized, including eight in critical condition. The Federal District Fire Department reported the situation, with fire crews setting up an emergency tent to provide immediate assistance.
Witnesses described the chaotic scene following the lightning strike, with people helping each other amidst confusion. The Federal District Base Hospital treated 13 patients, while five others were taken to the Asa Norte Regional Hospital. One of the injured, teaching assistant Patricia Rosa, suffered burns and ear pain due to the electrical discharge.
The incident took place during a seven-day march called “Walk for Freedom and Justice,” organized by opposition congressman Nikolas Ferreira and other right-wing politicians in support of Bolsonaro. The march covered approximately 240km from Paracatu to Brasilia, with Bolsonaro currently serving a 27-year sentence for alleged coup plotting after losing the 2022 election to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
