Canadian beach volleyball pair Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson clinched bronze at the Montreal Elite16 tournament, held on their home turf.
The 2024 Olympic silver medalists staged a comeback to defeat Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann with scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 18-16, securing a place on the podium.
Wilkerson led the charge with 32 attack points, 5 block points, and a crucial serve point. Humana-Paredes contributed 9 attack points to the victory.
The match had to be paused due to inclement weather before resuming.
Earlier in the day, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson fell short in the semifinals, losing in a tight match against Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta with scores of 21-19, 20-22, and 15-7.
Despite missing out on a three-peat, the Canadian duo fought for the bronze medal against Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann.
The pair had previously claimed victory in Montreal in 2023 and 2025, with an Olympic silver medal earned during the Paris Games in between.
Canadian men secure bronze
Canada’s Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett staged a comeback to secure an upset victory in the men’s bronze-medal match on Sunday.
The duo from Ontario rallied after losing the first set 16-21 to Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen, ultimately winning the next two sets 28-26 and 15-12, clinching their first podium finish together on home ground.
Schachter and Pickett caused a stir by defeating the top-ranked team of Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson to reach the men’s semifinals at the FIVB Beach Pro Tour event on Saturday.
Despite a valiant effort, the 39th-ranked Canadians were defeated in the semifinals on Sunday morning by Brazil’s Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and André Loyola Stein in a 2-1 match (21-12, 16-21, 16-14).
