“Chavenage House: Iconic Cotswolds Manor Thrives in Disney Series”

Date:

Rivals has made a comeback, drawing attention to its picturesque setting in the Cotswolds, particularly featuring a magnificent manor. The Disney Plus series emphasizes the countryside backdrop and luxurious homes within the fictional Rutshire.

One of the notable locations is The Priory, owned by Declan O’Hara in the show but in reality, held by a different family as Chavenage House. Situated in Tetbury, the property was managed by Rona Lowsley-Williams for 67 years until her passing in July 2025, credited with revitalizing the estate into a popular attraction.

Originally constructed in 1576 by Edward Stephens, The Priory is an Elizabethan house, listed as Grade I, with extensions added in the 17th, 19th, and 20th centuries while preserving its original style and materials.

Chavenage House has served as a filming location for various productions, including BBC’s Poldark, where it represented Trenwith, and featured in shows like Lark Rise to Candleford, The House of Eliott, Casualty, and Dracula.

Apart from filming, Chavenage House is open to the public for tours, with advance reservations recommended due to limited availability as a private residence. Admission costs £12 for adults in groups of 21 or more, £6 for children, and starts at £250 for bespoke private tours.

Visitors have praised the historical significance and personal touch of the tours at Chavenage House, with one highlighting the intimate experience provided by the Lowsley-Williams family members who conduct the tours.
