“Deadly Fire at Bordeaux Airport Halts Flights”

Date:

A fire near Bordeaux Airport led to flight cancellations and claimed the lives of two firefighters as they battled the blaze, emitting dense black smoke into the atmosphere.

Reports indicate that the fire originated in a building close to the airport’s car park on Avenue Roland Garros this afternoon, expanding rapidly across approximately one hectare of land.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed the tragic deaths of the two firefighters during firefighting efforts. While flight operations are gradually resuming at the airport, passengers are advised to check their flight statuses before departure.

Firefighters are still on-site combating the fire, which continues to release thick black smoke into the sky.

French President Emmanuel Macron honored the fallen firefighters in a statement, expressing condolences to their families, loved ones, and the broader firefighting community in France.

Minister Nuñez also praised the courage and dedication of the deceased firefighters in protecting the nation.

France has been dealing with a severe heatwave in recent weeks, leading to wildfires, a public health emergency, and over 2,000 casualties.
