Recently, an Italian national named Cristina Colturi, 28, lost her life in Tenerife while paragliding. The fatal accident occurred near La Enramada, a well-known beach in Costa Adeje, where she and her instructor crashed into a rocky area.
Despite prompt action by emergency responders, Cristina was found in cardiac arrest at the scene. Medical personnel were able to revive her temporarily before transporting her to the Our Lady of Candelaria University Hospital in Santa Cruz. Unfortunately, she passed away from her injuries two days later.
The FCDO advises British nationals to exercise caution when engaging in paragliding activities, emphasizing the importance of receiving thorough training beforehand. They also warn individuals near paragliding sites to maintain a safe distance from potential landing zones due to the sport’s inherent risks of serious injury or death.
Cristina, originally from Milan, had scheduled the paragliding experience as a Christmas gift and had been residing on the Spanish island for a year. Her family consented to organ donation and arranged for her burial in Tenerife, in accordance with her wishes. Cristina was employed at a local hotel.
The paragliding instructor involved in the incident sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received medical care at South Tenerife Hospital. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
