Police have unveiled new footage showcasing the high-speed car crash involving former WWE CEO Vince McMahon last summer, revealing that a state trooper was in pursuit to pull him over at the time. McMahon, now 80 years old, was driving his 2024 Bentley Continental GT on the Merritt Parkway in Westport, Connecticut on July 24. Authorities stated that the Bentley, valued at over $300,000, was traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph.
In the bodycam video, state police Detective Maxwell Robins questions McMahon about his excessive speed, to which McMahon explains that he was rushing to his granddaughter’s birthday celebration. Dashcam footage captures McMahon changing lanes abruptly, colliding with a BMW before hitting the guardrail and veering back onto the highway, causing debris and dirt to scatter. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, although a third vehicle on the opposite side of the parkway was struck by flying debris.
Following the incident, McMahon was cited for reckless driving and tailgating. In a court ruling, McMahon was granted entry into a probation program, with the charges set to be expunged if he completes the program successfully by the following year. Additionally, McMahon was directed to make a charitable contribution of $1000.
Authorities clarified that the trooper’s actions were aimed at clocking McMahon’s speed for a traffic stop rather than engaging in a pursuit. Video evidence shows McMahon denying attempts to evade the trooper when questioned. The media was not initially informed about the trooper tailing McMahon.
During interactions with troopers at the scene, McMahon denied phone usage while driving and mentioned his lack of recent driving experience. McMahon expressed concern for the other driver involved in the crash, Barbara Doran, and was relieved that she was unharmed. McMahon’s attorney emphasized that the crash was accidental, not criminal.
Having purchased the World Wrestling Federation in 1982 and leading its transformation into a global entity, McMahon resigned from his executive positions amid sexual misconduct allegations. McMahon has refuted the claims, with legal proceedings ongoing.
