“Former Trump Estate in Connecticut Set for Demolition”

Date:

The former residence of President Donald Trump and his first wife, Ivana Trump, in Connecticut is scheduled for demolition to make way for a new luxurious mansion. The expansive Georgian-style estate, spanning 19,786 square feet and located on a peninsula along the Greenwich waterfront, was acquired by the couple in 1982 shortly after the birth of their second child, Ivanka.

Originally valued at $4 million, the property was part of the divorce settlement when the couple separated in 1992 due to Trump’s affair with Marla Maples. Ivana later sold the house in 1998. The estate, built in 1939 on 5.8 waterfront acres, featured a main house with nine bedrooms and approximately 20,000 square feet.

After undergoing upgrades and renovations, Ivana sold the mansion for $15 million. In 2024, the property was sold again for $31.5 million. The new owners plan to enhance the estate further by adding amenities like an outdoor tennis court, a swimming pool, additional outbuildings, an indoor tennis court, and a new main house of around 17,000 square feet.

The current owners, identified as 21 Vista Drive LLC, have submitted plans for the redevelopment, which include combining three lots into one zoning lot, removing existing structures, and introducing new features like beach frontage. To proceed with the extensive project exceeding 150,000 cubic feet of construction, a special permit application was required through the town planning department.

While details of the new main residence are undisclosed, Robert A.M. Stern Architects, known for prestigious projects like Billionaire’s Row in Manhattan and the George W. Bush Presidential Library, has been enlisted for the design. The timeline for project evaluation and approval remains uncertain.

Ivana Trump, who passed away in 2022, mentioned the property in her memoir “Raising Trump,” recounting how they chose the estate while flying over the town in a helicopter. She died at 73 from accidental blunt force injuries after falling down the stairs at her New York City home, with no suspicion of foul play.
