The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has expanded its attacks to various countries in the Middle East, including Azerbaijan, UAE, Oman, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and a RAF base in Cyprus. Despite facing significant strikes, Iran’s leadership remains steadfast, with the new ayatollah Mojtaba surviving recent military actions and expressing a desire for retaliation against Israel and President Donald Trump.
While recent strikes have significantly impacted Iran’s nuclear program, some analysts warn that the country could rebuild its capabilities in the future. Global security expert Jeffrey Lewis highlighted the potential for Iran to reconstitute its nuclear program, given the existing technology and a vengeful mindset similar to North Korea’s approach.
Political professor Anthony Glees expressed concerns about the ongoing conflict potentially escalating into a prolonged and deadly struggle, with the regime actively resisting any attempts at revolution. He emphasized the ideological commitment of the Iranian regime and the challenges in achieving regime change through external intervention.
Glees also noted the differences between Iran and other countries, highlighting the deeply entrenched support for the ruling regime among sections of the population, despite discontent with their actions. The expert cautioned that the regime’s supporters may be willing to endure significant casualties to preserve the ayatollahs’ rule.
