Anthony Joshua is set to face off against relatively unknown opponent Kristian Prenga on July 25 before eventually meeting his long-standing rival, Tyson Fury.
The former two-time heavyweight champion has been out of action since his dominant victory over YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in December. Following a fatal car accident in Nigeria shortly after his win over Paul, which tragically claimed the lives of his close friends Kevin Ayodele and Sina Ghami, Joshua had to take time off to recover from the harrowing experience.
Recently, the 36-year-old has been spotted training with former rival-turned-friend Oleksandr Usyk in Valencia after his return to the UK to support Derek Chisora against Deontay Wilder. Joshua was also in attendance to witness Tyson Fury’s convincing win over Arslanbek Makhmudov and subsequent call-out for a showdown, which Joshua initially declined.
However, Joshua has now agreed to face Fury in November, contingent on him defeating Prenga in Riyhad, Saudi Arabia this summer in a fight to be broadcast on DAZN. Joshua expressed his readiness to return to the ring and continue his journey, stating, “The landlord will collect his rent. That is certain.”
Prenga, an Albanian heavyweight with an impressive record of 20 knockout victories and only one loss, is confident in his abilities, declaring, “Anthony Joshua is a great fighter, but he made a terrible miscalculation in choosing me as his opponent. I am prepared to disrupt their plans and surprise the world in Saudi Arabia this July.”
