An investigation into a potential homicide is currently ongoing following the death of a man after an apparent assault.
On Friday evening, emergency services responded to an incident in an alleyway between Dale Street and Arthur Terrace in New Marske, North Yorkshire, where a man had sustained severe injuries in a suspected attack. Tragically, the man was declared deceased at the scene approximately an hour later, according to Cleveland Police. Subsequently, a 37-year-old man has been apprehended on suspicion of murder and is being held in custody for interrogation.
A spokesperson for the police force mentioned that the deceased man’s family has been notified, and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his demise is in progress. The formal identification of the victim is expected to occur in the near future.
Addressing the concerns within the local community, the spokesperson emphasized that the incident is believed to be isolated and targeted at this stage.
Reportedly, a blue forensic tent was set up in the alleyway, and crime scene investigators wearing white hazmat suits arrived on the scene on Saturday, as per Teesside Live. The North East Ambulance Service confirmed the dispatch of two ambulances, a specialist paramedic, and a clinical team leader, with support from the Great North Air Ambulance medical car.
Cleveland Police assured that officers will continue to be present in the area to advance the investigation and provide support to residents. The spokesperson cautioned against speculation or online comments, stressing the early stage of the inquiries.
