His expedition began in 2014 as part of a job where he collected cost of living data for companies assisting in relocating employees. Dan, a languages and humanities graduate, traveled solo to major cities across the globe every few days. His task was to record prices of about 164 items in each location for analysis in a London office.
During his travels, Dan noticed a few British products that were consistently found in supermarkets worldwide. He shared that staples like tea, coffee, and specific types of biscuits were prevalent, such as Twining’s English Breakfast Tea and Nescafé Gold coffee jars. Despite the challenging nature of his role, Dan found joy in interacting with people and cherishes the connections made during his supermarket visits.
Having left the position, Dan looks back fondly on his experiences and even created a comedy show inspired by his adventures. Recently, UK shoppers were informed that ALDI was rated the most affordable supermarket in Britain for May, according to a Which? report comparing the prices of 95 products. ALDI emerged with the lowest total price of £168.30, following a thorough analysis of grocery items across multiple supermarkets.
Which? explained their evaluation process, which involves comparing prices of various products at different supermarkets to determine the average total cost. While Dan’s expertise lies in global supermarket pricing, UK consumers now have insight into the most cost-effective shopping option domestically.
