The Met Office has issued a snow and ice warning for five regions. The yellow weather alert covers central and north-west Scotland from midnight until 9 am on Friday. The Met Office warns of potential disruptions to roads, railways, and travel services due to icy conditions on untreated surfaces. Blustery snow showers are expected to intensify across Scotland, with accumulations of 2 to 5cm widespread and up to 10cm in higher areas above 350 meters.
To stay safe, individuals are advised to plan their journeys carefully, monitor for road closures, and prepare for delays in public transport. Essential items like warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, flashlight, ice scraper, warning triangle, high-visibility vest, and car charger are recommended for drivers in case of emergencies.
Additionally, the Met Office has issued two yellow wind warnings for the day. One warning applies to Northern Ireland until noon with gusts up to 50-60mph and heavy rain. The second warning, in place until 8 pm, covers parts of northern England, Midlands, Scotland, and Wales, with gusts of 50-55mph widely and up to 70mph on coastal areas.
For Friday’s forecast, the Met Office predicts a cold and windy day with a mix of sunshine and blustery showers, potentially turning into persistent rain and snow in some areas, especially over hills. Looking ahead to the next few days, expect frosty starts on Saturday, followed by scattered wintry showers and lighter winds. Sunday may bring rain and hill snow, while Monday could see increased wind and rain.
