A collision during the Gunfighter Skies Air Show near Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho resulted in a mid-air crash, sending a large plume of black smoke into the sky. Witnesses observed four parachutes descending after the incident occurred.
Videos shared online captured the moment of impact between two aircraft before the parachutes appeared. The crash occurred approximately two miles northwest of the base, prompting emergency response teams to quickly arrive at the scene around 12:30pm local time.
Confirming the incident, base spokesperson Antwain Hanks informed the Idaho Statesman about the crash. An air show announcer mentioned that the crews aboard the aircraft were able to eject safely, with all four parachutes deployed successfully.
Following the ejection, a subsequent announcement informed that fire rescue teams and other emergency services were en route to assist the pilots and crew members. Witnesses described seeing sparks in the air, followed by the emergence of smoke and parachutes.
This incident took place during the Gunfighter Skies show, marking its return after an eight-year hiatus. The previous event in 2018 ended tragically when a hang glider pilot lost his life in an accident.
