A father of three tragically took his own life following a dental procedure mishap in Turkey, rendering him toothless, according to an inquest. Pawel Bukowski, 48, was discovered deceased in his residence last April, having battled severe depression post the dental ordeal. The forklift operator had sought affordable tooth extraction and implant replacement in Turkey but faced a nightmare scenario.
Rather than receiving temporary dentures as planned, Bukowski returned home without teeth and was informed of a six-month waiting period for implants. His wife, Daria Bukowska, expressed that despite their efforts to help him, he lost hope for improvement. Bukowski had long struggled with periodontal disease, significantly affecting his confidence.
The failed dental treatment deeply impacted Bukowski, leading to emotional breakdown and a decline in mental health. He faced challenges in eating and turned to heavy drinking. Despite being assessed and referred for mental health support, the delay in care and medication supply issues were criticized by his wife.
The coroner’s conclusion cited evidence of Bukowski’s suicidal intent, exacerbated by the dental procedure’s repercussions. The investigation revealed missed opportunities in his care, with factors hindering his access to intensive intervention. Bukowski, who had experienced childhood trauma, was described as a skilled and caring individual, deeply missed by his family.
