The Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced on Monday the arrest of a 51-year-old individual from Montreal for allegedly issuing death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney. Marc-André Porlier faces charges of making threats to cause harm, as per an RCMP press release. The threats were reportedly communicated via email to various recipients, including a senator, as stated in the release. The accusations also included threats against “all Canadian police officers,” according to official documents.
Porlier had previously been convicted of arson and mischief for setting fire to a church in Toronto in 2017, confirmed by law enforcement to CBC News. At the time of the new allegations, he was still under probation for the prior offenses, as confirmed by an RCMP representative. Porlier made a court appearance on Saturday, as indicated in the press release, with the charges yet to be proven in court.
