Canadian swimming sensation Summer McIntosh, known for her exceptional performance at the 2024 Olympic Games and last year’s world championships, is now eyeing a remarkable goal for the upcoming 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. During a recent trip to California, McIntosh expressed her excitement upon seeing SoFi Stadium, the venue for swimming events at the 2028 Olympics, where she envisions making her mark.
Currently, McIntosh is gearing up for the Pan Pacific championships in Irvine, California, a significant event that includes top swimming nations like Australia, the United States, Japan, Brazil, and Canada. The competition, which occurs every four years and was postponed due to the pandemic, kicked off with open-water events in Long Beach before moving to the main competition pool in Irvine. McIntosh, alongside a team of 42 Canadian swimmers, including Taylor Ruck and other notable athletes, is set to compete in multiple events over the course of the championship.
Despite initially planning to swim in five events, McIntosh made strategic decisions to focus on four specific races that align with her training regimen and Olympic aspirations. Her choice to skip certain events like the 800m freestyle and the 200m butterfly, where she holds a remarkable record, demonstrates her calculated approach to maximize her performance. With the guidance of her coach, Bob Bowman, McIntosh is poised to showcase her skills in events such as the 200m freestyle, 400m individual medley, and others where she holds world records and past achievements.
The Pan Pacific championships will feature intense rivalries, including McIntosh facing off against American star Katie Ledecky in the 400m freestyle, adding excitement to the competition.
