Nigel Farage has been reported to the standards watchdog in Parliament for allegedly not disclosing financial benefits he received from a convicted criminal who offered to launder proceeds from drug trafficking.
The leader of Reform UK is facing accusations of violating parliamentary regulations for supposedly accepting various support such as staffing, security, and accommodation from George Cottrell in the year leading up to his tenure as a Member of Parliament.
George Cottrell, also known as “Posh George,” is currently under investigation by an ethics committee regarding the alleged financial assistance he provided to Farage, who managed to avoid a lengthy prison sentence in the United States by cooperating with authorities. Reform UK has denied any wrongdoing on behalf of its leader.
Cottrell, identified as inmate 46832-424 in the US federal prison system, was convicted in 2017 for wire fraud after initially facing multiple charges related to criminal activities, including money laundering.
During court proceedings, Cottrell disclosed his involvement in facilitating money laundering activities through online platforms like the dark web, where he communicated with individuals seeking to conceal illicit funds and evade legal requirements for reporting transactions. He admitted to planning to retain the laundered money with his accomplice, known as “Banker.”
The scandal surrounding Cottrell’s past actions has resurfaced, raising concerns about Farage’s ties to him and the potential implications on his political career.
