A painter and decorator lashed out at a parking warden by throwing his brush in anger after receiving a parking ticket. Craig Ashton, 42, directed a string of foul language at Mandy Williams and tossed the brush at her, causing damage to her trousers, as confirmed by a court hearing. The incident occurred in Llanidloes, Powys, where Williams issued a £60 ticket to Ashton on his van during her patrol.
During the court proceedings, Prosecutor Helen Tench highlighted the aggressive behavior, stating that Ashton verbally abused Williams and physically assaulted her by throwing the brush. Despite being offered a conditional caution initially, Ashton failed to comply, leading to his appearance in court where he pleaded guilty to common assault. He was ordered to pay £189 in compensation to the warden by the Welshpool magistrates bench chair, Laurence Monk, who advised Ashton to control his frustrations in the future.
Ashton admitted his wrongdoing in court, acknowledging his mistake in throwing the brush. He expressed frustration with the inconsistency of enforcement by traffic wardens in the small community, mentioning previous encounters with different wardens. Although the brush hit Williams’ leg, she fortunately did not sustain any injuries. In a victim impact statement, Williams shared her distress about feeling uncomfortable working in Llanidloes, affecting her ability to perform her job effectively and leading her to consider seeking alternative employment.
