A woman was left feeling unsettled when she discovered upon her return to a Premier Inn hotel room in Glasgow that it had been given to another guest. Dominique Oldham, 38, from East Lothian, had booked the room for a concert night with her cousin at the Hydro. Despite enjoying the event, her experience turned sour when she found out her room had been reallocated to someone else after returning around 11 pm on June 9 and realizing her key card was no longer functional.
Speaking to Glasgow Live, Dominique expressed her dismay at finding a ‘do not disturb’ sign on her door, which she had not placed. Upon informing the reception about the situation, she was informed that the hotel was fully booked. However, she clarified that she was not looking to book a new room but simply retrieve her own, which had been given away.
The hotel staff admitted to entering her room in her absence, relocating her belongings behind the reception desk, and assigning the room to a different guest. Despite the absence of a manager to address the issue at the time, Dominique was eventually offered an alternative room in a different section of the hotel, which she found unsatisfactory compared to her original accommodation.
Feeling violated by the incident, Dominique expressed her anger and discomfort, questioning the hotel’s security measures and expressing concern about her safety. Although all her belongings were accounted for, she struggled to sleep that night and lodged a formal complaint on June 14, which remains unanswered, leaving her upset and stressed.
Following intervention by GlasgowLive, Premier Inn issued an apology and offered Dominique a full refund, attributing the mishap to an isolated error by a team member during check-in. The company also extended a complimentary stay at a hotel of her choice as a gesture of goodwill, hoping to regain her trust in their services.
