Provincial authorities have reported the discovery of a third set of human remains on a property near Smiths Falls in eastern Ontario. The latest remains have been confirmed to be those of Lawrence Bertrim, who was last seen in downtown Smiths Falls in September 2022. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating the cause of his death, with no charges filed as of now. A $50,000 reward is still available for any information leading to a conviction in Bertrim’s case.
Bertrim, who was 42 when he went missing, was identified through the remains found on the Kelly Jordan Road property on August 6. Detective Inspector Jennifer Patton from the OPP expressed that finding Bertrim is a significant development for his family and the investigative team, who have been diligently working on the case for nearly four years. The public has shown great interest in the discovery of three missing individuals on the same property, and investigators are urging patience as they continue to follow the evidence trail.
In a related case, the remains of Robert Lambert were uncovered on the same property in July, with suspicions of foul play surrounding his death. Additionally, Robbie Thomson’s remains were found on the residential property in October 2025, leading to the arrest of four individuals in connection with his death, including three facing first-degree murder charges.
Reports suggest that Bertrim and Thomson were acquainted, and both were believed to have known Steven Tate, whose body was found in a ditch along Highway 15 in November 2023. The deaths of Tate, Bertrim, and Thomson had a profound impact on the Smiths Falls community, with the discoveries of the human remains deeply affecting both the town and the rural area, according to local officials.
