Donald Trump has made a significant reversal in his stance, now appealing to the UK and other nations to deploy warships to the Middle East for safeguarding the Strait of Hormuz.
Just days ago, the US President confidently stated that the conflict with Iran had been decisively resolved, brushing off reports about the UK’s plans to send the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales to the area.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump acknowledged the United Kingdom’s contemplation of dispatching two aircraft carriers to the Middle East, expressing gratitude while asserting that the US no longer requires such assistance.
However, in light of ongoing Iranian threats to vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz, Trump has shifted his position entirely, emphasizing the need for international collaboration to ensure the safety and openness of the crucial oil shipping route.
Highlighting the potential risks posed by Iran’s actions despite its military setbacks, Trump called for a joint effort with various countries, including China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the UK, to help secure the Strait of Hormuz and deter further disruptions.
He also outlined plans for the US to take proactive measures, including airstrikes on the shoreline and interdictions of Iranian naval assets, to achieve the objective of reopening, securing, and liberating the Hormuz Strait.
The call for multinational cooperation comes as tensions persist in the region, with the aim of addressing the threat posed by Iran’s disruptive activities in the vital maritime passage.
