The Met Office anticipates a significant shift in weather patterns following this week’s intense heat, with cooler and more variable weather approaching from the Atlantic by Sunday. While some regions in the UK will continue to experience temperatures above 30C over the weekend, particularly in eastern England, a general cooling trend is expected.
Meteorologist Aiden McGivern from the Met Office highlighted the upcoming transition to cooler and changeable weather as low-pressure systems move in from the Atlantic. While the change is predicted to affect most parts of the UK by Sunday, Saturday will bring a noticeable disparity in temperatures across different areas.
McGivern explained that eastern and southeastern regions will start Saturday with warm conditions, while western areas will feel fresher due to a southwest breeze. Despite the expected drop in temperatures, eastern parts could still see highs above 30C, with peaks reaching 34C in London and East Anglia.
By Sunday, the cooler air mass is projected to spread across the country, offering a more comfortable environment. Although the heat and humidity will diminish, McGivern assured that Sunday will be a pleasant summer day for many regions in England and Wales.
Temperatures are forecasted to decrease to 27C in the southeast, while other regions like Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England, Wales, and the West of England can expect high teens to low 20s. While most areas will experience a more agreeable climate, McGivern cautioned that the eastern part of England may retain warmth longer than other regions.
