Recent intelligence shared by a US ally suggests a new Iranian plot to assassinate President Donald Trump.
Israel has relayed this information to the US, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Iran has long threatened retaliation against the US following the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, a prominent general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, during Trump’s first term.
Tensions escalated to potential conflict after joint US and Israeli strikes on key Iranian targets on February 28.
The White House referred to President Trump’s comments made on Wednesday in response to the report.
During a press briefing in Türkiye, Trump hinted at threats to his life, stating, “They want to take out the US leader—me. I’m on every list. I saw this morning, I’m on every single one of their lists. And so far, I guess I’ve been a little bit lucky, but that maybe doesn’t last very long.”
Following the US-Israeli strikes that killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Iranians expressed mourning and calls for Trump’s death, with some displaying banners reading “We Will Kill Trump.”
On June 17, the US and Iran signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aiming to end the conflict within 60 days.
Efforts were being made to reach a lasting peace agreement, reopen international shipping through the vital Strait of Hormuz, and address disputes over Iran’s nuclear program.
However, Trump declared the ceasefire “over” during a NATO summit in Türkiye, stating, “I don’t want to deal with them anymore. They’re scum.”
