“Yellow Weather Warning: Thunderstorms to Hit England”

Date:

Thunderstorms are expected to impact various parts of England with frequent lightning strikes and heavy rainfall. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms lasting until 9pm this afternoon.

According to the Met Office forecast, an area of thunderstorms moving eastward will bring frequent lightning, gusty winds, torrential rain, and possible hail in some areas. Although the storms will move quickly, there is a chance of localized flooding with 20-25 mm of rainfall in active storm areas.

While the primary impacts are likely to be from lightning strikes, power cuts, difficult driving conditions, and potential damage to structures from strong winds or hail, an amber warning for extreme heat is also in effect. The thunderstorm warning covers regions in East of England, London, South East England, and South West England.

The Met Office warns of potential damage to buildings and structures from lightning or hail, as well as hazardous driving conditions due to spray, standing water, or hail, leading to longer travel times. Train service delays and short-term power outages are also possible consequences of the storms.

People in at-risk areas are advised to be prepared for flash flooding and take necessary precautions. If outdoors during a thunderstorm, seek shelter in a safe enclosed area, avoid trees or structures that could be struck by lightning, and be ready for rapid changes in weather warnings.
