Four individuals have been taken into custody by the authorities following an incident where a man in his fifties was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle. The occurrence transpired in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, on Monday evening. Allegedly, the driver and a passenger absconded the scene at East Common Lane but were subsequently apprehended by law enforcement. Additionally, two other men who were passengers in the vehicle were also detained.
A spokesperson for the police department stated that immediate action was taken, and the victim was swiftly transported to a medical facility for urgent care, where he remains in a critical condition. Shortly after, officers from the Roads Policing Unit intercepted a van believed to have been present at the time of the incident on Rochdale Road, leading to its interception.
Detective Inspector Charmian Bakersmith addressed the public, acknowledging the community’s concerns about the event while assuring that thorough investigations are already underway to determine the sequence of events. It is suggested that the incident involves individuals with pre-existing connections. The police have apprehended four individuals aged 33, 35, 45, and 53 in connection with the case, all of whom are presently in police custody. Authorities urge anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward to aid in the investigation.
Moreover, an obligatory notification has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to an injury sustained by a 35-year-old man during the detainment process.
