A dog owner inflicted severe injuries on a young puppy, including multiple broken ribs, legs, and cigarette burns on its face. Adam Blackwell, 26, abused his XL Bully named Milo, causing the puppy immense suffering. Blackwell neglected Milo, keeping him locked in a cage without food or water and providing false information to veterinarians about his injuries. When the RSPCA intervened, Milo’s injuries were so severe that the only humane option was euthanasia.
Sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail, Blackwell was condemned by Judge Stuart Rafferty KC for his deliberate and sadistic actions towards the helpless puppy. The court heard how Blackwell mercilessly kicked and punched Milo, leaving the dog in excruciating pain. Despite the puppy’s young age, he was subjected to a life of agony due to Blackwell’s cruelty.
The prosecution, represented by Philip Brown on behalf of the RSPCA, revealed that Blackwell acquired Milo in June 2023 and resided in Mansfield. A concerned neighbor alerted authorities after hearing Blackwell mistreating the dog, leading to the RSPCA’s involvement. Upon examination, veterinarians discovered Milo’s injuries, which included a disabled hind leg and facial burns consistent with cigarette marks. The severity of the injuries left Milo with no chance of recovery, necessitating euthanasia.
In addition to the animal cruelty charges, Blackwell pleaded guilty to possessing a knuckle duster and cannabis during a separate incident. With a history of prior convictions, including drug-related offenses, Blackwell’s actions violated a suspended sentence order. In his defense, Blackwell expressed remorse for his actions, attributing his behavior to personal struggles and an inability to manage his anger and substance abuse issues.
Apart from the prison sentence, the judge banned Blackwell from owning animals indefinitely, recognizing the severity of his cruelty. An RSPCA spokesperson described the case as distressing, emphasizing the importance of public support in protecting animals like Milo from suffering at the hands of abusers.
