A tragic incident unfolded when a 10-year-old girl, Myla Lilly Broadey-Meears, passed away after what was initially thought to be eye strain from excessive tablet use turned out to be a fatal brain tumor. Myla was diagnosed with an aggressive diffuse midline glioma during an eye appointment following symptoms of headaches, dizziness, and balance issues on a family holiday to Primrose Valley, North Yorkshire.
Her mother, Chantelle Broadey, initially suspected eye strain from digital device usage but was devastated to learn the real cause. Myla underwent surgery to remove 60% of the tumor at Sheffield Children’s Hospital and subsequently underwent 30 rounds of radiotherapy. Tragically, she succumbed to the illness on January 15, leaving her family devastated.
Chantelle fondly remembered Myla as a brave and beautiful child who enjoyed activities like cheerleading, camping, and shopping with her. Myla’s health deteriorated following the surgery, leaving her with physical weakness and a noticeable change in demeanor. Despite the family’s efforts and Myla’s resilience during the six-month battle, she passed away shortly after her tenth birthday.
In memory of Myla, Chantelle is organizing a charity event, Myla’s Twilight Walk, on March 20 to raise funds for The Brain Tumour Charity.
