“UK Braces for Stormy Weather: Met Office Issues Yellow Warning”

Date:

Forecasters have identified four potential hazards that may result from thunderstorms today and early Thursday. A yellow weather warning has been issued for the storms expected in the afternoon and evening, particularly affecting Wales and the Southwest of England, according to the Met Office.

These thunderstorms are expected to bring heavy rain and hailstones, prompting recommendations for Britons to prepare emergency kits with essentials like torches, batteries, and mobile phone power packs. The sudden weather change follows a period of temperatures exceeding 30C across much of the country, with Cardiff experiencing a high of 32.9C on Tuesday.

The Met Office has highlighted four main hazards that individuals should be mindful of during the stormy conditions. While the Environment Agency has not issued any flood alerts yet, previous concerns for parts of the Midlands have been alleviated as the forecast evolves.

Rain is anticipated to be most intense in western regions, with thunderstorms predicted to develop in Wales and parts of western and southwestern England. The storms may bring torrential downpours, lightning, large hail, and strong winds in affected areas.

Thursday is expected to see drizzle moving from west to east, with the Home Counties likely to experience the heaviest rainfall in the afternoon. This could lead to challenging driving conditions throughout the day, particularly during the evening rush hour in parts of Southeast England.

Looking ahead to Thursday, the Met Office forecast suggests mostly dry conditions with sunny spells, the possibility of a few showers, and potential thunderstorms later in the day across England and Wales. Warmer weather is forecast for many regions.
