“UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves Bolsters Support for Ukraine”

Date:

Rachel Reeves has pledged to enhance and expedite support for Ukraine’s recovery during her visit to Kyiv. The Chancellor engaged with families at a UK-backed center for the rehabilitation of children with disabilities and met with Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Mykhailo Fedorov, in the company of British and Ukrainian defense firms.

During her visit to the capital, Reeves honored those who lost their lives in Russia’s unlawful full-scale invasion at the memorial wall at St Michael’s. She also witnessed the destruction at Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a revered European site heavily damaged in a recent major Russian assault.

Expressing unwavering support, Reeves stated, “The UK’s commitment to Ukraine is firm. I am honored to witness the positive outcomes of UK investments in Kyiv.” She emphasized the partnership’s multifaceted approach, aiding Ukraine both on the battlefield and in bolstering its financial capacity to rebuild, assist vulnerable populations, and safeguard critical infrastructure.

The Chancellor’s trip followed discussions at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdansk, where the UK announced over £290 million in support for Ukraine’s resilience and energy security. This aid includes bilateral assistance and a UKEF-supported deal, in addition to the latest $1 billion in fiscal backing from the UK.

In total, the UK has allocated up to £25 billion for Ukraine, comprising £16 billion in military aid, up to £5.6 billion in non-military assistance, and £3.5 billion in UK export finance. This funding plays a crucial role in aiding Ukraine and its citizens in withstanding severe Russian aggression.

UK support has enabled over 28,000 households and businesses to maintain essential services during winter and safeguarded 25% of Ukraine’s national energy infrastructure from further attacks. Additionally, the UK remains steadfast in targeting Kremlin-associated entities by sanctioning more than 3,400 Russia-linked individuals while supporting Ukraine’s long-term prosperity.

Recent developments include Ukraine’s intensified operations against Russian positions in the illegally annexed Crimea, aiming to isolate it from mainland Russia. Kyiv’s special forces collaborated with Crimea resistance fighters to dismantle a vital logistics bridge and neutralize over 60 Russian military sites.
