“Infant’s Tragic Death: Two Apprehended in Gateshead”

A man and a woman have been apprehended following a police intervention at a residence in Gateshead regarding worries about an infant who tragically passed away in a hospital later. Responding to concerns raised by the ambulance service, officers visited the property in Deckham on Thursday afternoon.

The baby was swiftly transported to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed shortly after. Subsequently, two individuals were taken into custody and subsequently released on bail, according to Chronicle Live.

The man faces charges of potentially causing or permitting a child’s death, while the woman is accused of neglect. A spokesperson from Northumbria Police stated, “Yesterday, shortly after 1.45 pm, a report regarding a baby’s well-being in the Gateshead region was received through the ambulance service. Despite being taken to the hospital, the baby tragically passed away shortly after.”

“Our sympathies go out to the family during this difficult time. An investigation was promptly initiated, leading to the arrest of two individuals in connection with the incident,” the spokesperson added.

“The man has been arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing a child’s death, and the woman has been arrested on suspicion of neglect. Both individuals have been released on police bail pending further investigations.”

“The inquiry is in its early stages, and we urge the public to refrain from speculation as officers work to ascertain the facts.”
