“UK Drivers Warned of Rising Fuel Prices Ahead of Easter Weekend”

Date:

UK drivers are being advised to avoid refueling during peak hours as fuel prices may rise due to increased travel demand. The RAC predicts nearly 21 million leisure trips during the Easter period, making it one of the busiest Easter getaways since 2022.

The surge in fuel demand and limited supply stemming from the Middle East conflict have pushed prices up, with the RAC warning of possible further increases. Petrol prices have risen by 20p on average since the start of the Iran conflict, according to the RAC.

Iran has closed a vital oil trade route in response to joint US-Israeli strikes carried out in the country since February 28. The Strait of Hormuz, where about one-fifth of globally traded oil passes through, has been a focal point in the conflict, with Iranian attacks on oil tankers raising concerns about global oil supply.

Drivers are urged to avoid refueling during peak times this week as fuel prices show signs of increasing ahead of the upcoming bank holiday weekend. Experts note that prices tend to rise towards the end of the week as more drivers hit the roads, especially before busy periods like Easter. Simon Williams, RAC head of policy, mentioned that petrol prices might stabilize if oil costs remain steady, but diesel prices are likely to go up.

Williams advised motorists to save money by refueling earlier in the week or during quieter times of the day when demand is lower.
