A video captured the alarming incident when a leopard made its way into a store in India and attacked a worker. The wild animal reportedly strayed from a nearby forest into the building located in Todaraisingh, Rajasthan last Monday.
Witnesses initially reacted with screams as the CCTV footage later revealed the sudden appearance of the leopard, which swiftly leaped onto a man. The worker grappled with the powerful feline, struggling to shake it off before finally escaping by climbing over a table.
Following the attack, the leopard roamed inside the store, causing chaos by knocking over bottles until authorities intervened. Reports indicate that the leopard injured three individuals in the area before being tranquilized and removed after nearly five hours.
Described as an adult male aged between four and five, the leopard’s rampage began by attacking a forest volunteer before moving to a busy market and eventually the liquor shop. The volunteer, Rakesh Mali, suffered leg injuries when he encountered the hiding leopard. Another victim, Fateh Lal Koli, was seated outside the store and also sustained injuries. Sanjay Gurjar, the man seen in the CCTV footage, managed to escape with injuries to his nose, shoulder, and hands.
Koli and Gurjar reacted by closing the shop’s shutter from outside, trapping the leopard inside. Mali received immediate first aid while the injured shop workers were taken to a medical facility for further treatment.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led the leopard to enter the urban area, considering the significant leopard population residing in the forests surrounding Todaraisingh. While leopards are typically elusive apex predators, they pose a serious threat when provoked or threatened, showcasing exceptional strength and agility in their natural habitat.
