A police officer has been exposed as a rapist who committed a series of sexual assaults and attempted murders against women for over 14 years. PC Alan Greer, known as “Police Scotland’s Wayne Couzens,” ended his life in May while under suspension pending an investigation into his crimes.
A recent BBC Disclosure inquiry has revealed that during his off-duty hours, Greer targeted eight more victims, including five sex workers. The uncovering of Greer’s offenses has drawn comparisons to Wayne Couzens, the Metropolitan Police officer who kidnapped, raped, and murdered Sarah Everard in 2021.
Greer’s criminal activities first surfaced in 2025 when a woman reported a rape from 2012, leading to an investigation by Police Scotland’s anti-corruption unit. Detectives discovered that Greer had been closely monitoring the case file without justification. Subsequent searches in 2022 revealed his involvement in a violent incident reported by a sex worker in Glasgow.
Following Greer’s arrest in April for the 2012 rape, a search of his residence yielded multiple mobile phones and a laptop containing incriminating evidence. Police Scotland announced his death while under suspension and investigation, prompting mixed reactions among colleagues.
Assistant Chief Constable Lynn Ratcliff described the investigation’s findings as “shocking,” emphasizing Greer’s abuse of power. She commended the bravery of the initial victim who came forward, leading to the identification of eight additional victims. Ratcliff dismissed comparisons to Couzens, stating there was no evidence of overlooked red flags and highlighting improvements in the vetting process since Greer’s recruitment in 2009.
With more potential victims likely to come forward, Ratcliff encouraged anyone who suspects they may have been targeted by Greer to reach out to authorities.
