“Threat of ‘Nuclear Winter’ Looms Over Ukraine Conflict”

Date:

Warnings about the possibility of a ‘nuclear winter’ arising if Western forces intervene in the conflict in Ukraine have raised alarm among UK and EU authorities. The Kremlin has issued a threat of a “nuclear winter” if Western troops are sent to Ukraine under a pact between the UK and France. Sir Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron signed an agreement two weeks ago indicating the potential deployment of troops from both countries once a ceasefire deal is reached.

The objective would be to have Western forces stationed in Ukraine to act as a deterrent against future Russian aggression, as reported by the Express. The UK Prime Minister also mentioned plans to construct secure facilities for weapons and military equipment to support Ukraine’s defense requirements and to provide arms for the country’s military reconstruction efforts.

Nevertheless, the deal would cross a red line for Russia, according to the Russian tabloid Komsomolskaya Pravda. The tabloid stated, “A direct confrontation between NATO and Russia would likely result in a nuclear exchange and a nuclear winter in the region.”

The tabloid further questioned the European Union’s reluctance to send troops to Ukraine, suggesting a lack of willingness. It raised concerns about the EU’s stance over the past four years and speculated on whether the average European citizen would support such actions.

The Kremlin seems only open to signing a peace agreement on its own terms, aiming to immobilize Ukraine, as per reports in Russian publications. Rossiiskaia gazeta, a government newspaper, reported Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure following a recent pause.

Military experts indicated that strikes would continue until Kyiv agrees to a peace deal on Russia’s terms. Similar sentiments were echoed by military analysts in Moskovskij Komsomolets, a prominent Moscow-based daily newspaper.

The analysts emphasized the importance of paralyzing Ukraine’s energy and industrial base for a genuine ceasefire to be achieved, stating it must be on Russia’s terms.
