After issuing strong threats towards Iran, President Donald Trump faced widespread calls for his removal from office. Over 70 US lawmakers, including senators and members of congress, urged Trump’s cabinet to activate the 25th Amendment of the Constitution, which would declare him unfit to lead. Despite these demands, a prominent psychologist believes that Trump’s cabinet will never take such action.
The 25th Amendment, added to the US Constitution in 1967, was designed to address challenges related to presidential and vice presidential continuity. It allows the president to declare himself unfit or for the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet to declare the president incapable of carrying out his duties.
Dr. John Gartner expressed skepticism about Trump’s cabinet invoking the 25th Amendment. He emphasized their reluctance by stating, “They will never, and I mean never, even if he becomes a literal puddle of oatmeal, they will never invoke the 25th Amendment.” According to Dr. Gartner, Trump’s cabinet is described as “cowardly, corrupt, and fanatical,” showing no concern for the country, the world, or humanity. He attributed their loyalty to fear of the president.
Dr. Gartner highlighted Trump’s removal of experts across the government, enabling him to avoid contrary advice. This strategic move aimed to eliminate individuals who could challenge his decisions based on knowledge and experience.
Several lawmakers, including Senator Chris Murphy and Representative Ro Khanna, have called for Trump’s removal, citing concerns over his behavior and statements regarding war crimes. Pope Leo XIV also criticized Trump’s remarks on Iran, calling them “truly unacceptable.”
After Trump’s shift in tone and the announcement of a ceasefire, Senate Democrat leader Chuck Schumer criticized the president for his abrupt change in stance, describing it as a desperate search for an exit strategy from his earlier aggressive rhetoric.
